Our Statement

27th January 2024

We at Quwa would like to announce an important update regarding our publication previously titled "The Quran as Revealed." Following consultations with various scholars and after thoughtful consideration, we have decided to change the name of our book to "The Message."

Effective immediately, all new printings and publications of the book will be updated to reflect the new title, "The Message." This decision aligns with our commitment to accurately and respectfully present the teachings of the Quran to English-speaking audiences.

"The Message" more accurately reflects the purpose of our publication—to convey the teachings of the Quran in a manner that is accessible and understandable to English-speaking audiences. This change also addresses and dispels any misconceptions surrounding our work, emphasizing our goal of sharing the essence and wisdom of the Quranic teachings while maintaining the utmost respect for its original text.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
The Quwa Team

Dear Readers and Concerned Members of the Community,

We at Quwaco have recently become aware of some misunderstandings regarding our latest publication, "The Quran as Revealed," and would like to take this opportunity to clarify our intentions and the nature of this work.

First and foremost, it is essential to understand that "The Quran as Revealed" is not a 'new' Quran. Instead, it is a compilation of English translations of the Makkan Surahs, aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of these specific sections. This publication does not, in any way, replace the Arabic Quran itself. It is merely an educational resource for those who wish to study the Makkan Surahs in English.

Over the past year, we've received an abundance of positive feedback from readers who have found great value in "The Quran as Revealed." These testimonials highlight the book's significant impact in enhancing their understanding and connection with the Quranic teachings.

Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that "The Quran as Revealed" is akin to other books that focus on selected Surahs, such as those on Juz' Amma, Stories of the Prophets etc. Our book specifically covers the Makkan Surahs that were revealed before the Hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These Surahs are grouped together solely based on this fact and are presented in chronological order according to scholarly works. Each Surah is fully intact. Translations of verses have not been moved around to create new verses; rather, we have preserved the integrity of each Surah as it is.

We would never dare deny or overlook the Madani Surahs and have already prepared separate volumes for them. Translation of the Quran can be voluminous work, especially depending on how it is approached. Many of the pious predecessors had 10, 20, 30+ parts to their publications on the Quran. Our aim is to present Quranic teachings accessibly to English-speaking audiences.

It is also crucial to highlight that "The Quran as Revealed" is not a Mushaf. It does not follow the regulations and requirements associated with publishing a Mushaf. Instead, it is a general English publication intended for educational and scholarly purposes.

This project is by Quwaco. Mufti Menk, having been introduced to the concept, graciously agreed to write a foreword for the book and to assist in its promotion. We are grateful for his support in this endeavor.

We also want to remind everyone that The Quran, the noble book of Islam, is unchangeable and a miracle to mankind. Allah in His infinite wisdom challenges humanity in the Quran to produce even a single verse like it. This challenge stands as a testament to the divine origin and the unalterable nature of the Quran. The thought that a 'new' Quran could be created is a misunderstanding of our intentions. Our work is merely a humble effort to make the teachings of the Quran more accessible to those who seek knowledge.

The selection of images and translations was at our discretion and guided by various factors including permission and licensing considerations. We fully respect that it is at the reader's discretion to choose whether to engage with our books. We plan to include options for other translators works in future editions, pending necessary licenses.

Our publication, should be seen as a tool to help English-speaking Muslims and non-Muslims alike to engage more deeply with the Message of Islam. Many born Muslims have not read the Quran in a language they understand. By presenting these Surahs in a format that is familiar and accessible, we hope to encourage a greater appreciation and understanding of the Quran.

We are grateful for the community's engagement and concern, as it reflects a shared commitment to the sanctity of the Quran.

Once again, we hope this clarification has addressed your concerns and reassured you of our respect and dedication to the Quran. We pray that Allah guides us all in our journey of learning and understanding His divine message.

May Allah forgive our shortcomings and guide us in our efforts to spread the understanding of His word.

Sincerely,
Quwaco Team
